You only put the period before you end the quote if you continue the sentence but end the quote. If you end the sentence with the quote the period goes outside the quotation marks. Hence there are no double periods. Nice try though. And cudos for not drunk driving.
untrue. when printing was first invented, the punctuation marks were vulnerable to breaking off because they were smaller than the other pieces. the best way to prevent this was to put a blank space and a quotation mark around it. so the period ALWAYS goes inside the quotation mark. nice try though. oh, and you spelled kudos wrong.
I'm pretty sure that most "texts from last night" aren't being grammatically checked before sent. Kinda adds to the fact that someone was fucked up when they sent it. Just my opinion...not sure why everyone is becoming a Grammar Nazi on TFLN.
