Using the word "once" negates this being an update, as the proper usage of the word "once" denotes the action happing in the past. And an update would be filling someone in on the current events.
I don't know how i can explain myself monosyllabically enough for you to understand that grammatically, its just not correct. Remedial English?

bring up to date; supply with recent information
Perhaps the incident didn't happen at the reunion, but was retold there. "Once" and "update" could then happily coincide in the same sentence.
As for the fire dept being called, they got my head stuck out from the slots of a rocking chair when I was like 4. They do more than just rescue kittens and put out fires.
From my experience with the fire department, (not pertaining to my legs being stuck behind my head), they seem pretty helter-skelter if there's not a fire to be put out. At least our local fire department is that way.
