Olmer: um... And who exactly do you think coined the phrase? You need to review your intro to pysch or at least high school English or History notes...
no the oedipus complex is a son being jealous of his dad and wanting to get at his mother, while the electra complex is the equivalent for a girl, meaning that she is jealous of her mother and wants to fuck her dad...come on thats first year psych stuff.
Olmer/Aimmi: while I love me a good TFLN fight—esp Canada v US ones—I think ur both right. Olmer wasn't saying that OC and FS aren't related. Clearly they can be. He was saying that the text was not an ex of a FS. As a practicing psychologist, I'm inclined to agree with him. I guess if u really stretched it could be one, but it would be a pretty weak example. But it was meant to be a joke anyway, so who cares? I'm moving on.
Hey aimmi. What does Freud coining the term Oedipus Complex have to do with this not being a Freudian slip? He coined the term psychoanalysis, too. Who cares? Looking at porn after ordering flowers is not a Freudian slip. Now, if he meant to order flowers for his mom and ACCIDENTALLY went to a porn site instead, that would be closer to a Freudian slip.
Olmer: not exactly... It's the subconcious connection between actions/thoughts... OS and/or FS would potentially be correct, depending on interpretation. Considering that the OP is the one pointing it out, I'd say both are plausible.
