of course people retaliate against their oppressors. my born again friend likes to say he doesn't judge, his god does. then judges people.
pointing out bad behavior in others doesn't change YOUR bad behavior, christians!
Some Christians are extremists and take it too far, same with other religions. That's individuals. But all major Christian denominations agree on spreading the news of God but not forcing it on others. Calm down.
I'm sure it's a great book! Christianity is not about hate, it is about the exact opposite, love. And like said earlier, I am a Christian and I also do not oppress people because that is not showing God's love.
ok seriously... you guys have to turn a text mentioning christianity into a debate about religion? grow up. people can do what they want. i'm christian, and i don't oppress anyone. we're not all bigots.
Oh the Irony of atheism..get pissed off for trying to convert everyone but then wanting everyone to convert to athiesm..i hate both sides..you all suck..good day
I wish all the atheists would just grow up and leave people alone. Yes I believe in God, but i'm not going to force my religion on you therefore I don't believe you should force your non-beliefs on me and try to make me feel bad cause you don't believe in anything.
this text isn't even funny...
whether or not you believe in god or not, who are you to judge him?
especially when this guy's trying to be good? what's wrong with wanting to be good?
what does it matter if he doesn't want to participate in bad things?
did getting drunk, or having sex ever get anyone any further in life?
no...
stop being so ridiculous people.
3:09- burden of proof is on you bitch. So you prove it.
3:08- If I go to hell your loving god doesn't sound so loving. But I sleep wonderfully knowing there is no hell and no god.

If this said "my room mate has a Qu'ran on his desk!" everyone would be calling the OP a hateful, judgmental bigot... but it's OK to mock Christianity.
I'm a Christian. I agree with 10:37. Religion is a private matter between you and God. Forcing religion on nonbelievers cheapens faith. I believe out of love, not fear.
You guys missed the point. Apparently the roomate does everything counciled against in the book. Not that the OP is horrified his rommate is Christian.
"I look at God behind his desk, taking notes on a pad, but God's got this all wrong. We are not special. We are not crap or trash, either. We just are. We just are, and what happens just happens. And God says, "No, that's not right." Yeah. Well. Whatever. You can't teach God anything."
6:16, I don't mind street evangelists. I mind Christians who think they have the right to impose their flawed morality on our bedrooms, schools, hospitals, labratories, and government.
3:55 is SO right. People claim to be tolerant of all religions, but somehow that excludes christianity...and they insist on propagating stereotypes about bigoted "christians"...that's the same as saying "Muslims love to blow people up and hate america." its simply not true. people should tolerate ALL religions. That includes christianity.
organized religion (and that includes you christianity) are arrogant. and i think someone already said dangerous. faith can be very ugly, but preserving the good and beautiful is part of worship.
1:02 PM, I'm in the same boat as you. Born and raised Catholic, went to church twice a week til I was 18. Guess what? I'm an atheist. Besides, even if there were a hell, I'd prefer to go there. As Nietzsche said: "In heaven all the interesting people are missing."
So, this one time, I was offered a Bible from a guy on the street corner. I'm not religious, but I took it anyway because it was free. It's a pretty cool bedtime story.

I'm really amused by how surprised all you Christians are that you're being hated on. You've been ostracizing atheists for thousands of years. I'm sorry, but you do not get to claim you're being persecuted: Christianity is the biggest religion in America. There is no way you're being oppressed, guys. If you're that bothered when we poke at your religion, I think that shows how insecure you are in your belief anyway.
My favorite thing about Christians is how they are always telling you that their belief is based on faith and then turn around and tell you it is the truth. Things that are truths don't require faith or have any of you ever thought of that before?
I understand though... Back when I was 3 I had faith and Santa and would have said it was the truth he exist too.
^ agreed
we had a christian speaker at my high school who told us as wives we cannot refuse sex from our husband. wtf?!?! i'm all for promoting responsible drinking and sexuality but i can see how christians fuck up the message...
how does science explain miracles? how about the stigmata?
it's just sickening to read about the "scientific" explanations for the stigmata.
why does the blood on the wounds never dry up? why does it have a pleasant odor? why does it all of a sudden disappear?
how about fatima? why did 70, 000 people see the sun dancing in the sky? even NON believers?
try explaining that atheists...
it's a sad world we live in...
god warned us...
i pray for everyone on this page... especially those who need prayers. i hope you find god... if you ever get to know him, you will understand.
if you don't believe in god, try saying a prayer. seriously... just try. don't give up either... :)
There are smug Christians. There are smug atheists. Everyone has an ego, it's just a matter of how big their ego is. People who say that atheists don't have morals don't know what their talking about. Atheists choose their own morals to live by. I am personally on the fence. I was raised christiN, but now I am starting to question things. Be a freethinker. Don't follow blindly.
What do you call a caseworker who hates her job and loses every client?
Dead.
What do you call the police worker zipping her into a big rubber bag?
Dead.
What do you call the television anchor on camera in the front yard?
Dead
It does not matter. The joke is we all have the same punch line. –162
Maybe there's a god, maybe there isn't. No way to tell. Other than the fact that if there is a god, he hates me. I think I need a "How to get a Job in this Economy" book.
If I'd seen that book on my roomie's desk, I'd be at a loss for words myself. Later I would've thought it was funny as hell, but I wouldn't have given them crap about it either. I might be Atheist, but I still respect other people's personal beliefs.
7:15, you cannot prove a negative. An atheist is inherently right until you can definitively prove them wrong. You have no proof of any god, or any incarnation of the divine, and far less evidence that your particular mythology is the correct version. And I'm sorry, but the Bible is disgusting and has ruined American society ever since it supported the slave trade.
I own this book. YAY GOD! & I go to a christian college but still experience all of the pressures, etc. This book is a great tool. Props to your roomate. :)
Nothing wrong with that
But people saying ohh so only Christians can stay abstanint and what not, no.. Just that's one group and that's the spin the book has
Respect the guy who has this book, it's his choice.
He would respecct you
1:23 is a dumbass!
If you want to debate, at least start with Ignosticism - if believers cannot agree on an idea or definition of what "god" Is, how do you argue whether or not "god" exists?
Besides, if there is a god, pantheists or deists are correct. Your god isn't answering YOUR prayers and helping you while letting other Christians die in childhood, live in poverty, etc.
11:23, you clearly do not understand the concept of proving a negative that 8:02 was trying to explain. The burden of proof is on the person trying to claim something exists. You don't assume something exists until proven otherwise.
I love this idea Christians have that atheists never tried believing in God, that all they need to do is pray or read the Bible and suddenly they'll be saved.
Well, I attended church every week until I was 19. I studied the Bible in small groups. I majored in ancient Greek in college and can track mistranslations that altered the entire meaning of scriptures. I've also read other sacred texts and mythology and can point to similarities in stories that existed long before Christianity.
What now?
